Paul Leroy Scheid, 100, of Whiting, KS, passed away Friday, February 28, 2025, at his home with family at his side. He was born August 29, 1924 in rural Holton, KS, the middle son of Virgil Jesse and Daisy Irene (Hollenbeck) Scheid.

Paul graduated from Bennett High School in 1942 in Bennett, CO. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1943-1946, during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged as a Tech Sargent.

He married Betty Marie Cochren of Whiting on October 3, 1947 in Hiawatha, KS. She preceded him in death on November 14, 2020, after 73 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Daisy Scheid and 2 brothers, Earl and Ralph Scheid.

As a farmer for the majority of his life, he also retired from the United States Postal Service as the Whiting Postmaster after 31 years.

Paul was a member of the Whiting United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, V.F.W. Post 1367 and 50+ year member of Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include his 3 children, Paula S. Scheid (Stephen Rosengren) of Topeka, KS, Marcia Jo Scheid Watkins (Galen) of Whiting, KS and Mark W. Scheid (Glenda Herl) of Topeka, KS; 5 grandchildren, Joshua Watkins (Ericka), Zachary Watkins (Cori), Matthew Watkins (Kristin), Megan Martin (Anthony) and Jared Herl (Allison), 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grand-daughter.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. A burial with Military Honors will follow at Springhill Cemetery in Whiting. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Paul will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Holton V.F.W.
