WETMORE- Orval M. Bryant, 101, of Rockport, TX, formerly of Wetmore, KS passed away March 19, 2009 in Corpus Christie, TX. He was born July 5, 1907 in Wetmore, KS the son of William and Bessie McDaniel Bryant. He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1926 and had lived most of his life in the Wetmore Community. He was a famer and stockman, worked for 30 years at Dekalb Seed Dealer and was a bus driver for the Wetmore School district.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Goff, KS and a former member of the Wetmore Baptist Church.
He married Lodema B. Brownfield on March 4, 1931 in Holton, KS. She passed away May 19, 1989. He later married Frances Bea High on April 30, 1991. She passed away August 14, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a foster son, Clifford Lanier, on November 22, 1993 and three brothers, Boyd, Marvin and Ivan Bryant.
Survivors include his daughter in law, Marjorie Lanier of Wetmore; his sister-in-law, Opal Bryant of Holton; 2 grandchildren, Larry Lanier of Wetmore and Sharon DeVader of Holton; 5 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2009 at the Wetmore Bible Church. Burial will be in the Wetmore Cemetery. He will lie in state Sunday until 8:30 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to Wetmore Bible Church c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
