Obituary

Oran Wayne "Woody" Wood, 81, Topeka, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

He was born on March 2, 1932, at Mayetta, the son of Harry Eastman and Sadie Adeline Ray Wood. He graduated from Mayetta High School. He joined the US Army and served in the Korean Conflict.

Woody worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Topeka for 40 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Goodyear Post 2187 Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving as Quartermaster, and later Meriden Post 1085, V.F.W. where he served as Post Surgeon. He was a member of American Legion Post 400 in Topeka.

He married Virginia Mae House on Sept. 11, 1955, at Valley Falls. She died on Feb. 25, 1996. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Marie Jones, on May 20, 1995, a brother, Norman Wood, and three sisters, Annabelle Danielson, Aletha Browning and Evelyn Vratil.

Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl (John) Reynolds, Topeka; longtime friend and companion, Dee Bacon, Topeka; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, at Northland Christian Church. Burial will be at the Valley Falls Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Friday, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 400. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, at the church.
