Opal "Nolene" Chism, 72, of Soldier, KS passed away September 16, 2010 at Community Hospital in Onaga. She was born May 3, 1938 in Mountain Home, AR the daughter of Wayne and Viola Bowman Holt.
She attended Fifty Six schools in Fifty Six, AR. Nolene had lived in Circleville and Soldier communities since 1972 and had lived in Holton from 1960 – 1972. She was a homemaker; worked at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Onaga for 5 years as a Certified Nurses Aide; worked at Penn Place in Holton as a Job Supervisor for a year and at Jackson County Training Center as a Job Supervisor for 15 years.
She married Earl E. Chism on November 30, 1960 in Mountain View, AR. He preceded her in death on September 23, 1998. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Viola Chism and a son, Wayne "Butch" Chism.
She is survived by 2 sons, Edward Chism of Soldier, KS and Earl "Noland" Chism and wife Evonne of Horton, KS; 3 daughters, Gracie Grable and husband Bob of Marysville, KS, Goldie Vance and husband Ed of Soldier, KS and Nalene Grimes and husband Ronnie of Pineville, MO; 2 sisters, Joyce Carvalaho of Mountain View, AR and Jeretta "Jeri" Wells of Oakridge, MO; 2 brothers, Leroy "Roy" Holt and Rick Holt both of Mountain View, AR; 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday September 19, 2010 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with burial following in Muscotah Cemetery. The family will greet friends at a visitation Saturday evening at the funeral home from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Opal "Nolene" Chism Memorial Fund (to be designated at a later date) and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
