MERIDEN- Norman L. Swank, 79, of Meriden, KS passed away February 4, 2011 at the VA Colmery – O'Neil Medical Center in Topeka. He was born February 10, 1931 in Mayetta the son of John S. and Elizabeth Adkins Swank.
He graduated from Mayetta High School in 1949 and attended Washburn University. After school he served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Norman had lived in the Meriden area since 1976 and had previously lived in Hoyt for 20 years. He was an over the road truck driver for 38 years and retired in 1996 from Graham Truck Line in Kansas City, KS, he also worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 12 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #393 in Mayetta, O.E. S. #383 in Mayetta and had attended Rock Creek Bible Church in Meriden.
Norman married Peggy L. Holcomb on September 2, 1955 in Mayetta. She preceded in him in death on January 30, 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Myra Bryant and her husband David of Topeka; a son, Jack Swank of Meriden; a sister, Marion Barker of Topeka; five grandchildren, Chris, Darren and Myranda Bryant and John and Griff Swank and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2011 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment will be in the Hoyt Cemetery.
