Nellie Marie Tillotson, 87, of Owasso, OK formerly of Holton, KS died Saturday, December 19, 2009 at a care center in Owasso. She was born April 17, 1922 in Des Moines, IA. She was the daughter of Calvin B. and Margaret R. Ward Hess.
She graduated from high school in Afton, IA in 1941. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Holton, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She worked at Slimaker Dress Factory, Rexall Drug and operated the Arcada Theatre with her husband, Don, in Holton.
Nellie married Maurice D. "Don" Tillotson on August 17, 1941 in Marysville, MO. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2006. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Troy McAlexander in 2000, and a brother, Calvin B. Hess. Nellie is survived by a son, Michael Tillotson and his wife, Patti of Owasso; daughter, Sherry McAlexander of Tulsa, OK; sisters, Dorothy Harmon and Margaret Andrews both of Lincoln, NE and Mamie Shinkle of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Shawn Tillotson and his wife, Keri, Shanin Kenney and her husband, Dan, Robin McAlexander of Tulsa, OK and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday December 29, 2009 at Graceland Cemetery in Creston, IA. The family will greet friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church c/o Mercer Funeral Home, Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
