SHEPHERD

HOLTON- Nellie Marie Perry Shepherd, 90, of Holton, KS passed away September 8, 2009 at Medicalodges Jackson County. She was born October 10, 1918 in Circleville, KS the daughter of Charles Ellsworth and Mary Elizabeth Hittle Perry.
On August 19, 1939, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Francis Shepherd in Junction City, KS. To this union was born one daughter, Rosemary Shepherd Desch.
Nellie grew up in the Circleville, Bancroft and Soldier areas. She attended grade school at Mt. Union school district and later graduated from Bancroft High School in Nemaha Co.
Nellie had many hobbies, completed many craft projects and had made many quilts. She and her husband enjoyed bowling at the Holton Bowling Alley for many years. She joined the Lakeview Faith Chapel Pentecostal Church south of Holton, KS.
She worked at the Hannah Poultry Plant in Goff, KS and later worked for many years at the Slimaker Dress Factory in Holton.
She resided with her husband on their farm near Soldier, KS and later moved to Holton, KS in 1984. He passed away April 4, 1987. Since his death their daughter, Rosemary has resided with her. She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Rosemary Shepherd Desch of Holton, KS; a sister, Lela M. Perry Brown of Grants, N.M.; 2 brothers, Forrest C. Perry of Wichita, KS and Laurence M. Perry of Castor, L.A.; a grandson, great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2009 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment will be in America City Cemetery, south of Corning, KS. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
