In loving memory, Monica Angelita Wishteyah “Wap-Skee-Ze-Quah” Wahquahboshkuk, passed away on July 3, 2026, at Gardner Rehabilitation in Gardner, Kansas, at the age of 18.
Monica was born on October 7, 2007, in Lawrence, Kansas, to Mary Aguilar and Gunzy Wahquahboshkuk.
She was a devoted daughter, cherished sister, beloved aunt, niece, cousin, and dear friend to many. To have known Monica was to know someone who loved deeply and unconditionally. Her presence brought happiness, laughter, kindness, and humor wherever she went. She had a beautiful soul that touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Monica was a proud member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and practiced the Peyote Religion, where she found peace, strength, guidance, and a deep spiritual connection through the ceremonies she held close to her heart.
She dreamed of traveling the world, driven by a curiosity to explore new places, experience different cultures, and discover all that life had to offer beyond what she had known. Her adventurous spirit and hopeful outlook reflected the remarkable young woman she was becoming.
Monica is survived by her loving parents, Mary Aguilar and Gunzy Wahquahboshkuk (Juniora); her six siblings, Marie Tessendorf (Josh), James Klesath (Brooke), Damon Wahquahboshkuk, Roman Wahquahboshkuk, Tonya Wahquahboshkuk-Brannon (BJ), and Jonas Wahquahboshkuk (Alyssa); along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends who will forever treasure her memory.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Peyote Services will be Wednesday evening, July 8, 2026 at Gunzy’s Homeplace (10130 174th Rd., Mayetta, KS 66509). Burial will be Thursday morning at Wap-Skee-Ze-Quah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Mercer Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses. Memorials may be sent to P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
Monica's love, warmth, laughter, and gentle spirit will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Though her time on earth was far too short, the memories she created and the love she shared will continue to live on.
