On April 16, 2014, at Midland Care LinnWood Park Care Facility in Valley Falls, the Lord called home our loving grandmother, Mildred Hefty. Mildred lived her entire life, 101 years, in Valley Falls, Kansas. She was born Mildred Agnes Strawn on September 25, 1912. She was the 4th oldest child of John and Ella Strawn and sister to nine siblings. From that family she is survived by one sister Juanita Strawn Boley, Salina.
Mildred attended a one room school house and graduated from Valley Falls High School. She married Clarence V. Hefty on April 24, 1935, and in the following years became a mother of Laura Jane, Donald and Jimmy, all who are now deceased.
Mildred devoted her life to always caring for others, as a sister, teacher in her one room school house, friend, aunt, wife, mother and grandmother. Mildred's passions included her family, as well as quilting, sewing, cooking and gardening. She readily shared the products of her labor with those around her. Her love and labor are the legacies she leaves us. She will be missed greatly by friends, family and grandchildren she has touched so dearly with her kind words, sparkling eyes and quick laughter.
She was a member and had attended the Coal Creek United Methodist Church and the Valley Falls United Methodist Church.
Survivors include grandchildren Kevin, Kent and Rex Foley, Rhonda Foley Mitchell, Ellen Hefty, Lisa Hefty, Tim Hefty; daughter-in-law Marilyn Hefty; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Falls Historical Society and sent c/o Mercer Funeral Home, PO Box 6, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
