Obituary

GOFF- Milburn was born to George David and Norma Adell Haflich Cannon on April 30, 1922, on a farm two miles north of Goff, Kansas. Milburn was nicknamed "Bud" as a small child and was known by Bud throughout his life. He spent most of his life in and around the Goff area. Bud Cannon attended rural schools. He served in the United States Army during World War II from October, 1942 until January of 1946. He saw action in Guam and the Philippine Islands; Bud was awarded the Bronze Star. He attained the rank of sergeant. After his discharge, he bought a farm and farmed east of Goff. Bud was a member of the Army Reserves and was recalled during the Korean Conflict from January of 1951 until September of 1951. Bud Cannon returned to farming, worked for Granada Township operating a road patrol and a bulldozer, and helped run Bud's Cafe in Goff, Kansas. In May of 1975, he started working for Nemaha County out of Seneca, Kansas. Bud Cannon was a member of the American Legion Heald-Thieme Post No. 316 at Goff. Bud and his wife, Lucylle, played contract bridge and belonged to a couple's bridge club as well as a seven point progressive pitch club.
Bud and Lucylle C. Ingwerson were married at the United Methodist Church in Goff, Kansas, on June 5, 1949. Lucylle and Bud were married for 61 years. Other survivors include his son, Kenneth Wayne Cannon, and his wife Connie; his daughter, Barbara Ann Heffner and her husband Les. The Cannon's took in three foster boys when they were young and raised them. They are Keith (deceased), Rick, and Steve Orender. Also surviving are four granddaughters--Amber Heffner and children (Alex, Lance, and Jarred), Corri and Gus Park and children (Carson and Reese), Jaime and Michael Heffner-DeWitt and daughter (Ellie), and Lesley and John LaRock--one grandson, Kris Cannon and daughter (Chloe)--three foster granddaughters--Brandi, Staci, Jessica and one foster grandson, Josh Orender. Bud is also survived by his sister, Mary Ann Kirk, and one brother, Donald Cannon. Bud Cannon was preceded in death by his parents, George David and Norma Adell Haflich Cannon; his sister, Velma Cannon; and a grandson, Kirk Cannon.
Bud Cannon was a giving person who always had time to help his family, a friend, or a neighbor. He worked hard throughout his lifetime; he was a strong man in character and spirit. He loved woodworking, being outdoors, gardening, and people. Bud Cannon was everyone's best friend!
A celebration of Bud's life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery at Goff. Bud will lie in state at the funeral home where family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening.
