Holton- Merlene Nikunen, 53, of Holton, formerly of California, passed away Monday January 2, 2012 at Holton Community Hospital.
She was born June 25, 1958 in Braman, California the daughter of Merle and Vera C. Heavens. On May 14, 2000, Merlene married LeRoy Nikunen in California. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Newland of Marion, Kentucky, Doug Newland of Blackwell, Oklahoma and Cody Newland of Holton, Kansas; her brothers, Bill Spears of Michigan, Paul Havens of Oklahoma and Robert Havens of Georgia; and her numerous grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother Merle Havens.
Memorial Services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2012 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials are suggested to the Merlene Nikunen memorial fund and may be left in care of Mercer Funeral home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, 66436.
