MERLE A. LASSITER
Merle Arlene Lassiter, 93, Valley Falls, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007. at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka.
She was born April 23, 1914, at Winchester, the daughter of Charles C. and Zella M. Connelly Housh. She graduated from Winchester High School.
She had worked in the office of the State Treasurer at Topeka and had been head cook for the Valley Falls Schools. She had been a teacher at several Jefferson County rural schools. In her youth she had attended the Winchester Christian Church.
She married Arthur Julian Lassiter on Jan. 3, 1937, at Valley Falls. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ina Irene Sheldon and Myrnice Charlene Clinkenbeard, a brother, Charles Harley Housh, and a granddaughter, Lori Lynn Lassiter.
Survivors include her husband, Art Lassiter, two sons, Raymond Arthur Lassiter and Jackie Thomas Lassiter, a daughter, Connie Sue Bernasek, all of Valley Falls; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will be at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, V.F.W., and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, 810 Broadway, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
