Obituary

MAYETTA-Maynard Leo "Naw kweh ki shek" Potts, 92, of Mayetta, KS passed away April 3, 2008 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS. He was born October 27, 1915 in Skunk Hill, WI, the son of Joseph William and Rosann Lasley Potts.
He has lived in the Mayetta/ Potawatomi Reservation community since 1919. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked construction and masonry work, was an avid sports lover and a great baseball player. He was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and Drum "Way of life".
Mr. Potts married Coralene Keesis on October 2, 1942. She passed away November 24, 2001. He was also preceded in death by 2 sons Vernon and Norman Potts.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Barbara Tims of Mayetta, KS, Voncile Mitchell of Mayetta, KS and Doris Potts-Zyganiuk of Parry Sound, Ontario; 2 sons, Eddie Potts of Mayetta, KS, Lloyd Potts of Oklahoma City, OK and their adopted mother, Venida Chenault of Lawrence, KS; an adopted son, Calvin Evans of Mayetta, KS; a sister, Cecelia "Meeks" Jackson of Mayetta, KS; 7 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Drum service will be Monday evening, April 7, 2008 at the Dance Ground building. Burial will be Tuesday afternoon, April 8, 2008 at the Potts Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
