Maxine L. Helton, 97, of Holton, KS passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Onaga Hospital. She was born February 1, 1917, the daughter of Tom and Katie (McKinsey) Bottom, in the Bucks Grove Community southwest of Soldier, Kansas. She attended Bucks Grove Grade School.
Maxine married Wesley Helton on January 28, 1932 in Leavenworth, KS. She had lived in Atchison, KS with her husband and family for 23 years where she worked for Blair Milling Company for 17 years. In 1955 they moved to Cleburn, TX. While there, Maxine was the manager of Dairy Queen. They moved to Holton in 1959 and she did janitorial work for the Denison State Bank and housekeeping for several families in the community.
Maxine was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Holton. She was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Art Guild, and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary all in Holton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wesley Helton in 1993; her daughter, Gloria Peterson in 2005; her infant grandson, Richard Peterson; her brothers, Pete and Roscoe Bottom and her sisters, Isla Nott, Velma Tolin and Bertha Channel.
Maxine is survived by her son, Danny Helton (Darlene) of Topeka, KS, her daughter, Carol "Mouse" Reichle (Fred Card) of Denison, KS, 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment will be in Bucks Grove Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be given to Bucks Grove Church c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
