Mary E. Turner, 71, Denison, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at her home.

She was born Oct. 11, 1945, at Harrisonville, MO, the daughter of Charles and Lucy McCall Howdeshell.

Mary was a Certified Nurse Aide and a Certified Medical Aide at the Jefferson County Geriatric Center at Winchester when she retired. She had worked as a waitress at the Sunset Dairy Diner and as an equipment operator at Baker Quarry, both at Valley Falls.

She married John Cory, April 14, 1964, at Valley Falls. They divorced. She married Wayne Turner, Oct. 24, 1986, at Oskaloosa. He died July 18, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Anderson, and a grandson, Ethan Cory.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Cory, Denison, and Debbie (Terry) Nichols, Valley Falls; her son, John A. (Lauren) Cory, Jr., Joplin, MO; her brother, Charles Howdeshell, Decatur, TX; three sisters, Maria Godfrey, in Missouri, Judy Bouse, St. James, MO, and Ann Howdeshell, Beavercreek, OH; nine grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

The Memorial Service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
