HOLTON-Mary Lu Schlaegel, 94, of Holton passed away peacefully to her heavenly home on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Medicalodges Jackson County in Holton, KS. Mary was born December 4, 1916 in Haddam, KS the daughter of Japeth and Mary Elizabeth Line Walden.
Mary graduated from Haddam High School in 1936. She married D. Herbert Schlaegel on September 12, 1937 at the Methodist Parsonage in Seneca, KS. Mary and D. Herbert spent almost all of their married life in the Centralia and Holton area prior to D. Herbert's passing.
Mary was a very devoted Housewife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother who loved cooking, quilting, sewing, 4 – H activities, reading, EUM Church Activities, gardening and flowers, along with enjoying numerous family activities. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, a daughter, Debra Kay in 1974, her husband, D. Herbert in 1989 and her only grandson, Darin in 2003.
She leaves to mourn her passing her only living brother, J.D. Walden and wife Martha of Shawnee, KS; her 3 sons, Gary D. and wife Marian of Whiting, KS, David and wife Annie of Waverly, KS, Charles "Chuck" and wife Connie of Holton, KS; 8 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with burial to follow at the Centralia Cemetery.
