A Memorial Service for Mary Anne O'Neill McElroy, Goddard, KS, will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at the Winchester Reformed Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will be at the Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery in Winchester. Mrs. McElroy died Oct. 8, 2016, at Goddard.


She was born Dec. 25, 1931, at Winchester, the daughter of Hugh Thomas and Helen (Sloop) Fulton O'Neill. She graduated from Winchester High School in 1949, received a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Mississippi State College for Women in 1961, and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Ohio in 1972.

She married Robert Lloyd McElroy, Dec. 7, 1951, at Winchester. Bob's career in the US Air Force gave them opportunity to live in many areas of the country. Mary taught in the states of Mississippi, New York, and Ohio. Upon moving to Kansas, Mary taught in the Goddard school system and then became Principal of Goddard Intermediate School. She retired in 1994, as an Assistant Superintendent of the Goddard School District.

She was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church at Topeka, KS, the Goddard Women's Club, and Sigma Kappa sorority.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, and her half-sisters Hazel Dobbs, Erma Harrelson, and Flora Dill. She is survived by her sons, Thomas Lloyd McElroy, Columbia, MD and Robert Joseph McElroy, Wichita; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Services in Wichita were under the direction of Downing & Lahey Mortuary West Chapel. Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls is in charge of local arrangements.
