Mary Ann Nissen, 85, passed away July 7, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.

She was born July 27, 1930 in Holton, Kansas the daughter of John Martin and Hazel V. (Ray) Schlodder. She attended Hazel Grove Elementary School and graduated from Wetmore High School in 1948. On February 10, 1950 Mary Ann married Leonard E. Nissen in Wetmore. The couple had lived most of their lives on the family farm in the Wetmore community. In the early 50's they lived in Trenton, NJ and Belleville, IL while Leonard served in the United States Air Force.
Mary Ann managed Wetmore Grocery that she and Leonard owned and operated from 1977-1999. After her retirement, Mary Ann enjoyed sewing, quilting, and gardening.

She was a member of the Wetmore American Legion Auxiliary (Levick-Barrett Post #282) and of the Wetmore United Methodist Church. Leonard preceded Mary Ann in death on October 12, 2013 after 63 years of marriage.

Mary Ann is survived by: her daughters, Evette Nissen (Richard Howard) of Columbia, MO, Cindy Grollmes (Mark) of Circleville, KS and Tammy Pfrang (Keith) of Ft. Worth, TX; her 6 grandchildren, Matt Grollmes (Jamie), Doug Grollmes, Sam Pfrang, Olivia Pfrang, Michael Howard (Maddie) and James Pfrang (Sara). In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Louise Fernkopf and her brother, John Schlodder, Jr.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Wetmore Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
