Mary I. Joy, 91, of Hoyt passed away Sunday July 17, 2011 at Medicalodges Jackson County in Holton.
She was born July 30, 1919 in Hoyt, Kansas, the daughter of Alexander and Minnie (Kneale) Barker. She married Gail Shipman on May 20, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1945. On October 15, 1956 she married Dana M. Joy in Holton. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1999. Mary was a homemaker and farmwife and had worked at the Hoyt Post Office for several years. She was a member of Hoyt First Baptist Church.
She is survived by: her children, James "Jimmy" Joy, of Hoyt, KS, Nina David and her husband Alan of Liberty, MO and Paul Shipman and his wife Carol of Topeka, KS; her five grandchildren, Linda Anno, Sheryl Barnett, and Christina, Alyssa and Derrick Haxton; and her great grandson, Wyatt Barnett. In addition to her husband Mary was also preceded in death by her sister, Laura Dickinson and her brothers, Edward and Bethel Barker.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday July 21, 2011 at Hoyt First Baptist Church with burial following in Hoyt Cemetery. The family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
