Marvin L. Starr, 86, of Holton, KS passed away October 20, 2013 at Holton Community Hospital. He was born April 15, 1927 in Soldier, KS the son of Charles D. and Emma D. (Pollock) Starr.
Marvin attended Cedar Hill Grade School and Soldier High School. He proudly served in the United States Merchant Marines during WWII.
He was a dairy farmer and stockman most of his life. Marvin was Undersheriff for Jackson County Sheriff's office for 21 years and 5 years as Juvenile Parole Officer. Marvin was a past member of the Soldier Christian Church and currently a member of the First Christian Church in Holton. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #44 (Mary L. Blair), lifetime member of VFW Post # 1367 and was instrumental in bringing Jaws Of Life to Jackson County.
Marvin married Elenora Roudybush on February 16, 1947 in Soldier. She survives of the home. Other survivors include 2 sons, Raymond L. Starr (Sherri) of Topeka and James L. Starr (Cleo) of Meriden; 2 daughters, Debbie Harshaw (Randy) of Topeka and Kathy Jeanneret (Mark) of Topeka; 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale F. Starr.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 26th at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will be in the Olive Hill Cemetery. Family will greet friends Saturday one hour prior to services beginning at 9:30 a.m. Memorials may be given to the Holton Community Hospital or the First Christian Church c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
