SOLDIER- Marvin Dee "Rocky" Bentley, 48, of Soldier, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2006 in Holton.
Rocky was born July 6, 1957 in Burlington, KS, the son of Marvin Hilton and Adah Katherine Martin Bentley. His father passed away in 1960. His mother remarried in 1971 to James B. "Jim" Smith. Rocky graduated from Holton High School in 1976. He was a lifelong resident of Jackson County. He worked various construction jobs. He worked for Concrete Unlimited from 1989 – 2002.
He married Laura Lea Smith on July 12, 1980 in Richmond, KS. She survives.
Other survivors include 2 sons PFC Jeremiah N. Bentley stationed in Iraq, Zachary T. Bentley of the home; 2 sisters Linda Raaf and her husband Ralph of Holton, Barbara Jenson and her husband Jerry of Garnett; 2 step-sisters Merry Burke and Sherry Zibell both of Holton; and a step-brother Gerry Smith of Klamath Falls, OR.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Jim Smith and a step-brother Terry Smith.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 9, 2006 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Circleville Cemetery. He will lie in state at the funeral home until service time. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society and sent c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, Kansas 66436.
