Obituary

Marvin Lee Bengtson, 80, of Holton died Wednesday May 16, 2012 in Topeka, KS. Marvin was born October 6, 1931 in Gypsum, KS, the son of Swen Alfred and Maymie Ann Fisher Bengtson.

Marvin worked for Western Electric, and also as a truck driver and a farm hand before starting his own business, Bengtson Building & Remodeling.

Marvin served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Boxer. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #1367, American Legion Post #44 both in Holton and USS Boxer Veteran's Association.

He was a member of Larkinburg Christian Church. Marvin served as Holton's Mayor in 1978 & 1981.

Marvin married Mary True, they were later divorced. He married LaVeta F. Gibbens on September 2, 1977 in Bartelsville, OK. She survives. Marvin is also survived by his children, Kenneth & Margaret Bengtson of El Paso, TX, Arnold & Teresa Bengtson of Wichita, KS, Bruce & Lynn Bryant, Judy Childers, Deb & Kevin Helus, Pam Bryant all of Holton, KS, Paula Lira of Paxico, KS and Cecil & Karen Goodrick of Knoxville, TN; a brother, Paul & Rosie Bengtson of Lawrenceville, GA; 25 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Marvin was preceded in death by his brothers, Earl, Lowell, Vernon, Layle, Dale and Carl Bengtson.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday May 21, 2012 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Holton Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Vet's Club c/o Mercer Funeral Home, PO Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
