Obituary

Marvel I. McDaniel, 87, Winchester, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born Oct. 8, 1931, at Wetmore, the daughter of Harry A. and Dorothea J. Mahler Scott. She graduated from Wetmore High School in 1949.

Marvel and her husband, George had multiple business ventures, including grocery stores, hardware stores, and a café. Marvel had worked in cafeteria service at the Jefferson County North schools in Winchester and retired as a baker from the University of Kansas Campus in Lawrence.

She married George F. McDaniel, Jan. 10, 1951, at Wetmore. He died Sept. 5, 1978. She was also preceded in death by a son, Loren McDaniel; three brothers, Ivan, Gene and Jim Scott; a sister, Beth Bohannon; and a daughter-in-law, Alice McDaniel.

Survivors include three sons, Mike McDaniel, Longmont, CO, Larry John (Donna) McDaniel, Oskaloosa, and Greg (Marie) McDaniel, Atchison; a daughter, Cindy (Kim) Griffitts, Oskaloosa; two brothers, Bob (Phyllis) Scott, Holton, and Mac (Bev) Scott, Cyprus, TX; two sisters, Elaine (Cletus) Suther, New Carlisle, OH, and Ruth Glenn, Wetmore; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow at the Wetmore Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday.
