Martha "Marty" Sue Sommers, 89, of Valley Falls, Kansas, died November 25, 2025 at Colonial Village Assisted Living, Overland Park, Kansas.

She was born October 10, 1936, in Cleveland, Tennessee, the daughter of Henry and Nell May. On April 9, 1955, she married Vernon D. Sommers, who preceded her in death. Survivors include her children, Alice Murphy (Terry) of New York City, New York, John Sommers (Rebecca) of Olathe, Kansas, Shawn Sommers (Dawn) of Tonganoxie, Kansas; six grandchildren: Jessica Shelton (Brett), Jacquelyn Tompkins (Chris), Jared Sommers (Jacqueline), Kathryn Yarnall (Mitchel), David Sommers and Mady Sommers; and two great-grandchildren: Kade Shelton and Scout Yarnall. Other survivors include five of her 10 siblings: Betty Lawson, Linda Taylor, and Joy Renner all of Cleveland, TN, William "Bill" May, Maryville, TN, and Gracie McGuffin of Simpsonville, S.C. Deceased siblings include Jim May, Bob May, Mary Jenkins, Carole Spence and Margaret Ward. She was also preceded by her grandson, Andrew Sommers.

Martha was active in the Valley Falls Lions Club, volunteering at their mobile health clinics, as well as the Rock Creek Bible Church, volunteering for the JoyAgers group and attending mission trips. In 2007, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, she received her high school diploma after completing the remaining courses at Valley Falls High School.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 28, 2025 at the Rock Creek Bible Church, 5257 Highway K92, Meriden, Kansas with burial to follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Arrangements by Mercer Funeral Home, Holton, Kansas.
