Marta Lynn Doughty, 54, of Mayetta, KS passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at her home with her family by her side. Marta had been courageously battling an auto-immune disease.
She was born June 29, 1960 in Hartselle, AL the daughter of Gerald and Mary Alta (Robinson) Doughty; the youngest of five children.
Marta graduated from Humboldt High School in 1978. She was raised in Alabama until the family moved to Humboldt, KS in 1973. She had lived in the Mayetta community since 1985. Marta worked managed Jump Start gas station in Holton for 6 months and Prairie Band Casino in Mayetta. She had also worked for Payless (Volume Shoe), First National Bank and Blue Cross and Blue Shield all in Topeka.
She married William "Willie" Christian, Jr. in 1985 at their home in Mayetta. He survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Brianna Christian of Tulsa, OK; 2 sons, Ethan Christian of Lawrence, KS and Gerald Christian of Mayetta, KS; 3 step-daughters, Shelly Bossle and Sarah Christian both of Maryland and Tamara Christian of Topeka, KS; 2 surrogate sons, Ryan and Brendan of Ohio; 2 sisters, Rachael Doughty of Birmingham, AL and Leah Griffies of Kansas City, KS; a brother, Neil Doughty of Pittsburg, KS and a nephew, Max Griffies.
Marta was preceded in death by her father in 1985; her mother in 1965 and a brother, Nathan Doughty in 2005.
Family was most important to Marta; always spending time with her children trying to teach them and watch them grow. She was an artist and enjoyed making stained glass and filled their home with beautiful works of art.
Memorial visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Marta Doughty Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
