Margaret L. Martin, 109, Rock Creek, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at Kelly House care facility in Meriden.

She was born Aug. 16, 1906, at Gowen, in Oklahoma Territory, the daughter of Zura and Lou Annie Leonard Skellenger. She lived at Hartshorne, OK, where she was a care-giver for 17 years in the home of her future great-uncle, John S. Martin.

Margaret farmed with her late husband, Harold, at Rock Creek, for 27 years. She had lived with her daughter, Mary Anne Knowles, and husband, Don, at Ozawkie, for over 35 years.

She was a Rock Creek Booster 4-H Club Leader for over 25 years and had attended the Rock Creek Bible Church, when it was at Rock Creek. She was a member of the church's Ladies Aide Society and Rock Creek Young Matrons Club.

Margaret was an avid Kansas City Royals baseball fan and had enjoyed watching the 2014 World Series.

She married Harold A. Martin, April 15, 1944, at Meriden. He died Aug. 27, 1971. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Emery and George Skellenger; and a sister, Thelma "Dutch" Kilgore.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Anne (Don) Knowles, Ozawkie; grandson, Jason Knowles, Statesboro, GA; granddaughter, Rebecca Knowles, Kansas City, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the Meriden Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
