MARGARET L. FRAKES

Margaret L. Frakes, 96, Valley Falls, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Jefferson County Memorial Geriatric Center at Winchester.
She was born July 23, 1911, at Summerfield, KS, the daughter of Alois and Mary Ellen Byrne Wenzl. Margaret graduated from Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Valley Falls and from Mount St. Scholastia Academy in Atchison in 1928. She received a Kansas Teaching Certificate in 1931. She had been a clerk for the Kansas Highway Patrol when she retired in 1973.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church at Valley Falls. She was also a member of St. Mary's Altar Society, the Valley Falls Historical Society, Pleasant Valley Home Demonstration Unit and was a founding volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Margaret made and gave many layettes for Birthright of Topeka. Many Raggedy Ann & Andy dolls and patchwork wool quilts were among her creations.
She married Charles L Frakes on July 12, 1933, at Valley Falls. He died on Sept. 10, 1965. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lucy Marie Frakes on Oct. 23, 1952, four brothers, Phil Wenzl, Paul Wenzl, Carl Wenzl and Gene Wenzl, and a sister, Bertha Burns.
Survivors include four sons, Ed Frakes, Fremont, CA, Ralph Frakes, Albuquerque, NM, Don Frakes, Valley Falls, Joe Frakes, Bratenahl, OH; three daughters, Betty Reichart, Plattsmouth, NE, Anna Hosler, Valley Falls, Jenny Elder, Havensville; 33 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 28, 2008, at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church in Valley Falls. Burial will be at the church cemetery. A Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., Friday at St. Mary's Church. Visitation will follow in the church parish hall. .
