Mabel Ruth "Osh" (Negonsott) DuPuis, of Holton, KS, passed away Sunday September 15th at her home surrounded by many family members and friends.
Mabel was born March 21st, 1938 on the Kickapoo Reservation, near Horton, KS to Milton Leslie Negonsott and Evelyn (Wahwassuck) Negonsott, both deceased. The 2nd of 12 children, she was preceded in passing by her siblings; John P. Negonsott, Mary Ann (Negonsott) Blacksmith, Emery L. Negonsott and Norene Negonsott. She is survived by siblings, Bill Allen Negonsott, Janet Leigh Negonsott and Patricia Elaine Negonsott all of whom reside on the Kickapoo Reservation, near Horton, KS. She is also survived by 5 children; Gail Cheatham (Danny) of Topeka, KS, Michael DuPuis of Topeka, KS, Tim DuPuis (Dana) of Statesville, NC, Mark DuPuis of Winchester, CA and Melissa DuPuis of Holton, KS; 9 grandchildren, Eric Sheets, Crystal Irwin (Dave), Hannah Banks ( Anthony) Jonathan DuPuis, Joshua DuPuis, Sean Selig, Collin DuPuis, Michael DuPuis and Anthony DuPuis and 6 great grandchildren, Tyson Sheets, Bella Sheets, Maleigha Maag, Sarah Sheets, Aaliyah Banks, Brandon Selig and Bryson Wilson.
She was a respected member of the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas and attended Powhattan High School graduating in 1956. After graduation, Mabel worked at the Horton Garment Factory, later entering the health care profession, work she continued for more than forty years. Mabel enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and often travelled across the country to spend time with them.
She was a dedicated servant of Jehovah's Witness congregation in Holton, KS. Mabel had such a loving and self-sacrificing spirit, she often put others needs before her own. In 2011 she achieved one of her lifetime goals of serving as a full time pioneer. Mabel enjoyed sharing the Good News of God's Kingdom with everyone she came in contact with.
Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses (12350 214th Rd., Holton). Inurnment will be in the Negonsott Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Kingdom Hall c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
