HAVENSVILLE- M. Lavonia Hiskey, 95, of Havensville, KS died Thursday, July 12, 2007 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. She was born June 16, 1912 in Havensville, the daughter of William A. and Allie Odie Dennis Irwin. She was the youngest of five children having four brothers, Lester, Dewey, Raymond and Evan, all deceased.
Lavonia attended Havensville schools, graduating with the class of 1930. After high school she worked in her brother, Evan's grocery store in Havensville. She worked for several years at Slimaker Dress Factory in Onaga and Holton. Later, she attended Clarks School of Business and worked as a data entry operator for the State Revenue Department in Topeka, KS. She also enjoyed babysitting for several children over the years. Her hobbies were sewing, fishing and picnicking with family and friends. She lived with her granddaughter, Kay and her husband, Stan and their family from August 2001 until her passing.
She was a member of the Havensville Christian Church and the Ladies Aide Society and was treasurer of the Ladies Aide for several years.
Lavonia married Lee Donald Hiskey on March 2, 1932 in Seneca, KS and they had one daughter, Vonda Lee. Her husband died January 2, 2001 after 68 years and 10 months of marriage. Her daughter and grandson, Alan Bottom also preceded her in death.
Survivors include granddaughters, Kay Rice, Lenexa, KS, Susan Garcia and Kathy Garcia, Lawrence, KS and Debra Beckham, Knoxville, TN and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2007 at the Havensville Christian Church. Interment will be in Havensville Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 12:30 until service time at the church. She will lie in state Saturday and Sunday at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
