Obituary

Mayetta- Lucille Mary Smith, 78, of Mayetta, KS lost her courageous battle against pancreatic cancer on Friday, May 27, 2011. She was born on June 15, 1932 in Beloit, KS the daughter of John A. Dillner and Lena Mary Baker Dillner Bessett.
Lucille had been a school bus driver for Mayetta and Denison, worked at Jackson County Nursing Home and had also managed Red Rock Game Reserve with Emmett for many years. There are many stories of running coyote dogs at the pen. Many are true but there was also some fibbing. Mostly about whose hound was leading the pack. These stories are forever ingrained in the memories of most of the family. Most of all she was a devoted mother and homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with all of her family. This time was spent at family reunions, holidays and any other opportunity for a get together. Lucille was always one of the first to jump in and help and one of the last to quit till everything was done.
She married Lowell Emmett Smith on November 17, 1949 in Kansas City, KS. He preceded her in death on April 24, 2000. She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, John, Henry, Joe and Butch Dillner and 3 sisters, Rosemary "Rosie" Waugh, Ruth Gurney and Esther Dillner.
Survivors include her 2 daughters, Sharon (Don) Bukacek of Mayetta, KS, Shirley (Don) Perry of Goff, KS; her son, Steven "Smitty" Smith of Topeka, KS; 2 brothers, Fritz (Barb) Dillner of Hoyt, KS and Carl (Louann) Dillner of Derby, KS; 1 sister, Barbara "Barb" (Walt) Niemeyer of S.C.; 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lucille was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and a good friend to many. She will be dearly missed and has left a void that cannot be filled. Lucille will be remembered and never forgotten. So the journey for both the SILVER FOX & MAMA FOX has ended on earth and continues in Heaven, TOGETHER AGAIN.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment will be in the South Cedar Cemetery. Family will greet friends 7:00 – 8:30 Monday evening. Memorials may be given to Midland Hospice c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
