LUCILE BROWN
WHITING- Lucile Brown, 94, of Whiting, KS passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at a Horton care facility. She was born December 5, 1914 on a farm southeast of Netawaka, KS, the only child of Fred and Amy Humphries Klahr. She attended country schools and graduated from Netawaka High School in 1932.
Lucile taught in country schools several years and attended Emporia State Teacher's College during the summers. She was married to D. D. McCord and they were later divorced. She attended business school in K.C., MO and went to work for General Mills in Kansas City. She worked in the engineering department and later transferred to the Plant Superintendent's office where she worked as a secretary and Property Records Clerk.
Lucile was a member of the Whiting United Methodist Church.
She married Ralph Brown on October 3, 1958 at the Melrose United Methodist Church. They made their home in K.C., MO until August of 1966 when they moved to Whiting, KS.
Lucile was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ralph Brown in 1987 and by her stepson, Norman Brown and his wife, Della. Survivors include her step granddaughters, Mary Isaacs and her husband, Dewey of Muskogee, OK and Norma LaLonde and her husband, Larry of Placerville, CA; 4 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren and several cousins and their families.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2009 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, KS. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in the Netawaka Cemetery.
