Loyd Joseph Sender, 100, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Golden Acres Nursing Center in Onaga. He was born November 21, 1908 in rural Manhattan, KS, the son of Joseph and Mattie Gors Sender.
He had lived in the Havensville community for the past thirty-five years. He had previously lived in Kansas and Colorado. He was a farmer and rancher.
Loyd married Mary Jane Caskey in May 1932 in Manhattan, KS. She preceded him in death on June 29, 1999. He was also preceded by sons, Firman Sender in 2004 and Joseph Sender in 1957; granddaughter, Donna Jane Van Oss; four sisters and two brothers. Loyd is survived by daughters, Sally Mattusch and her husband, Donn of Montrose, CO, and Lana Jane Hoffman and her husband, Bert of Canyonville, OR; son, Mike Sender of Havensville, KS; grandchildren, Lee Sender, Rueben Sender, Lynn Williams, Debbie Heil, Robb Van Oss, Karl Kent Blair, Jared Sender, Ivy Rash, and Sarah Sender.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2009 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Dover Cemetery. Mr. Sender will lie in state at Mercer Funeral Home until service time.
