Lola Charlene Chambers's Obituary

Lola Charlene Chambers, 92, Valley Falls, died Friday, March 3, 2017, at Midland Care at Linnwood Park Home Plus at Valley Falls.

She was born Sept. 10, 1924, in rural Morton County, the daughter of Clarence William & Lily Elnora Johnson Higgins. She was a member of the Coal Creek United Methodist Church.

Lola was a clerk for Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka, retiring after 42 years of service. She also farmed and raised livestock with her husband, Bud Chambers.

She married Elmore L. "Bud" Chambers, Dec. 31, 1947, at Topeka. He died Feb. 25, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Charlene Eberhardt, Oct. 4, 2003; three brothers, Leroy, William and Ernest Higgins; and four sisters, Violet Galligher, Opal Erickson, Isabelle Perry and Jewell Burrows.

Survivors include her son, Michael (Ann Frakes) Chambers, Valley Falls; two brothers, Eugene Higgins, Elkhart, Jack Higgins, Rolla; a sister, Dorothy Milburn, Elkhart; three grandchildren, Brian (LeAnna) Welch, Ben (Tisha) Welch, and Savannah Chambers; and four great-granchildren, Henry Forman, and Bradley, Lily, and Parker Welch.

The Graveside Service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2017, at Prairie View Cemetery, southeast of Alta Vista. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
