Leslie O. "Red" Farr, 88, Valley Falls, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, at his home.
He was born on Aug. 4, 1924, at Oskaloosa, the son of Guy S. and Carmen Vanderpool Farr. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1942.
Red was a master carpenter and was a member of Carpenter's Union Local 1445. He also farmed and raised horses. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the Valley Falls Christian Church and was a Valley Victors 4-H Club Leader. Red enjoyed working outside, and traveling, especially on cruises.
He married Dorothy Marion Wells on April 30, 1950, at Valley Falls. She died on March 27, 1986. He married Elizabeth Tucking Littleton on Oct. 1, 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of the home; three sons, Dr. Stan (Donetta) Farr, Valley Falls, Barry (Nancy) Farr, Bolivar, MO, and Dr. Brad (Stephanie) Farr, Horton; two daughters, Lynn (Ron) Tuck, Hoyt, and Sharon (Dave) Church, Valley Falls; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two brothers, LeRoy Farr, Upper Marlboro, MD, and E.L. Farr, Topeka; four stepchildren, Lynn Littleton, Topeka, Brent (Freda) Littleton, Valley Falls, Jan ( Mark) Crow, Overland Park, and Wendy (Darin) Martin, Tonganoxie; and seven step-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son, Leslie O. Farr II, a grandson, Jordan Farr, and a great-granddaughter, Madison Temm.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at the Valley Falls Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
