Leo Scotland "Scottie" Bontrager, 80, Wetmore, died Saturday, October 24, 2009, at a Topeka Hospital.
He was born December 24, 1928 at Goff, the son of George Washington and Clara Troxel Bontrager. He attended Wetmore High School and later served in the US Army.
Scottie was a Finish Road Grader Operator. He had worked for Abel Construction at Lincoln, NE for many years and also for other contractors. He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 175 at Lincoln. He lived at Lincoln for 36 years before moving to Wetmore in 1990.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim Bontrager, Merle Bontrager and Herbie Bontrager; three sisters, Ethel Barnes, Elma Spiker and Gladys Ward, and a son-in-law, Jim Hansen, who died on Nov. 7, 2008.
He married Olive M. Thieme on Aug. 28, 1950, at Soldier. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Dennis Bontrager, and his wife, Patty, Lincoln; two daughters, Lana Hansen, Heber, AZ, and Sharon Waigand, and her husband, Phil, Thayer, IA; a sister, Edith Reed, Colorado Springs, CO; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery at Goff. Visitation will be from 7:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wetmore Bible Study and sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
