Obituary

Leah Mae Shaw, 92, of Silver Lake, KS, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Lexington Park Nursing Home in Topeka. She was born February 15, 1933 in Ft. Scott, KS, the daughter of Andrew and Verna C. (Knowles) Bahnmaier.

Leah graduated from Lecompton High School in 1951. She worked over 40 years as a Federal Employee at Fort Riley, Topeka and Leavenworth; she worked many capacities for various departments.

She was a member of the Silver Lake United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and NARFE.

Leah had a love of her garden and animals. She and her husband, Ed, spent many days selling their produce and eggs at the Farmer's Market in Topeka. She also enjoyed helping her grandchildren with 4-H, showing chickens and cattle.

She married Edgar Warren Shaw on July 22, 1957 in Topeka, KS. He preceded her in death on October 14, 2018; after 61 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Verna Bahnmaier and a brother, John Bahnmaier.

Survivors include 2 sons, Steven W. Shaw (Cindy) of Silver Lake, KS and Alan Shaw of Wakarusa, KS; daughter, Louann Austin of Silver Lake, KS; sister-in-law, Lanna Bahnmaier of Gladstone, MO; 8 grandchildren, Tracy Mercer (Chris), Scott Sloop (Rosie), Justin Shaw (Deb), Shanda Dorsey, Warren Shaw (Emma), Chloe Austin (Christian Blake), Colbe Austin and Claire Austin; 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at the Silver Lake United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Memorials may be given to the Silver Lake United Methodist Church, Lecompton Historical Society or Helping Hands Humane Society c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
