Obituary

SOLDIER-Lawrence E. Schreiber, 85, of Soldier, died Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. He was born on February 1, 1922 in Ionia, KS, the son of Leo and Grace Schoen Schreiber. He attended Goff High School and lived most of his life in the Soldier Community.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS Randolph. He was a farmer/stockman, worked for Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline near Havensville, KS for 25 years and later worked in sales for Davis Fence for several years.
He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Netawaka and a member of the Soldier Card Club.
He married Madella Johnson on April 14, 1948 in Goff, KS. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Jan Polter and her husband, Rob of Topeka; 2 grandsons Justin Polter and his wife, Michelle of Topeka, Ryan Polter and his friend, April of Topeka and 3 great grandchildren Garrett, Riley and Brooke Polter.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Wilma Duchesneau-Muckey and Velma Bottom and a brother, Leon Schreiber.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 1, 2007 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Netawaka. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5:30 – 7:30 Friday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to the church sent c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS. 66436.
