Lawrence Adrian "Larry" Kappelman, 60, of Kansas City, KS passed away April 8, 2014 at his home after a courageous battle with colon cancer. He was born February 3, 1954 in Kansas City, MO the son of Lawrence J. and Elberta J. (Twiselton) Kappelman.
Larry graduated from Washington High School in 1972. He later received his Associates Degree in Fire Science from Kansas City Kansas Community College. He worked as a firefighter at Kansas City, KS Fire Dept. for over 33 years; retiring in 2009.
Larry was a member of the Old Mission United Methodist Church in Fairway, KS, he was a member of Firefighters Relief Assoc. and the NRA. He also was a member of Boy Scouts and attended Philmont Boy Scout Camp in New Mexico.
He married Carol J. Stous on October 21, 1979 in Holton, KS. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his parents, Lawrence and Elberta Kappelman of Kansas City, KS; his son, L. Christopher D. Kappelman of Kansas City, KS; 2 sisters, Joy Pinder (Mark) of Linwood, KS and Tina Kappelman of Kansas City, KS and a brother, Kurt Kappelman of Kansas City, KS.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Old Mission Church in Fairway, KS. Family will greet friends from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Larry will lie in state Saturday afternoon, April 12, 2014 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton prior to burial in Holton Cemetery.
