LaVerne McConnell, 91, of Holton, KS passed away Monday, March 13, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. She was born December 10, 1925 in Horton, KS the daughter of Louis and Josephine (Marak) Schuetz.


LaVerne graduated from Horton High School. She lived most of her life in the Jackson County area. LaVerne owned and operated Bill's Market with her husband Bill for 12 years. After moving to Holton, she worked for Jackson County Headstart, where she later retired.


She married Billie G. McConnell on February 24, 1949 in Horton. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2007.


Survivors include a daughter, Rita Ent (Elmer) of Holton; a son, George McConnell (Carion) of Atchison; 4 grandchildren David Ent, Jennifer Berges, Amy Gab, and Kristy McConnell; and 5 Great-grandchildren, Hannah Ent, Dalton Ent, Peyton Gab, Avery Gab, and Gage McConnell.


In addition to her husband, LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Fern Banks; a brother, Lyle Schuetz; and a grandchild, Michael Alan McConnell.


Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in the Wetmore Cemetery. The family will greet friends 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
