LaVerna Emma Slimmer of Holton passed away October 25, 2012. She was born December 1, 1922 in Holton, the daughter of Max K. Drechsler and Emma Wahl Drechsler, deceased.
LaVerna attended school in Holton, graduating in 1940. In 1941she married Lawrence Slimmer in Little Rock, Arkansas. He preceded her in death March of 1997.
LaVerna worked for United Telephone as a switchboard operator, American Savings as a teller and she worked alongside her husband and later her son Steve as a bookkeeper for Slimmer Oil Co. all in Holton.
She was a life-time member of the Evangel United Methodist Church, and a 72 year member of the King's Daughters Sunday School Class, her sisters in faith.
She is survived by two sons, Lawrence Jr. of Hiawatha and his wife Lorna and Stephen of Holton and his wife Sheryl and a daughter, Gale Karns of Holton.
Also surviving are grandsons, Philip Karns and wife Tina of Auburn, Christopher Slimmer and wife Christina of Topeka, Matthew Slimmer and wife Trisha of Topeka, Martin Slimmer and wife Judy of Kansas City, MO, Keith Slimmer of Hiawatha, Troy Slimmer and wife Tracy of Olathe and Eric Slimmer and wife Jennifer of Oklahoma City, OK and fourteen great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Lena Bent and Violetta Bowser and brothers, Max, Jr. and Milton Drechsler.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2012 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Family visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening.
