LaFurn Ellen Colhouer, 91, Valley Falls, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at LinnWood Home Plus care facility in Valley Falls.

She was born on Sept. 17, 1920, at Meriden, the daughter of John and Ethel May Seever Knowlton. She graduated from Rock Creek High School.

LaFurn had been the Operations Manager at the Kendall State Bank in Valley Falls and prior to that at the Citizens State Bank also in Valley Falls. She had been a substitute school teacher and a bookkeeper for the McBride Hatchery in Rock Creek.

She was a member of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Rebekah Lodge No. 652, Blue Mound Grange, Blue Mound Sunshine Club, a Blue Mound 4-H Club Leader and the Kanza Club.

She married Raymond H. Colhouer on Oct. 15, 1938 at Oskaloosa. He died on Nov. 12, 2003. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Roy Knowlton, and a grandson, Alan Huston.

Survivors include two daughters, June Huston and Geraldine (Terry) Metzger, four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and four step great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
