SMITH

HOLTON – Kenneth L. Smith, 67, of Holton passed away Sunday, February 1, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. He was born February17, 1941 in Holton, KS the son of Albert Henry and Lucile Mary Haag Smith.
He graduated from Holton High School in 1959. He carried mail for the Holton Post Office for 20 years. He worked at Anweiler Real Estate, operated Ken's Auction Barn and also farmed. Ken was a member of the Evangel United Methodist Church where he was a active in the choir. He served in the US Army Reserve.
He was married to Judith Ellen Shaw on September 8, 1962. Born to this union were Cindy, Kristy, and Bill.
Ken married Rose Marie Schoen on April 19, 1980 in Chanute, KS. She survives. He is also survived by his children: Cindy Peterson (Kent) of Liberty, MO, Kristy Winter (Chris) of Olathe, KS and Bill Smith (Heather) of Berryton, KS; his sisters: Linda West (Jack) of Holton and Barbara Hayes of Topeka; his brothers: Burton Smith (Bettie) of Holton and Dale Smith (Mary) of Holton; his grandchildren: Austin, Lucas, Koell, Steele and Tatum. Ken was preceded in death by his sister Mary Shaw in 1987 and his brother Lyle Smith in 1998.
The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Mercer Funeral Home.
