Katherine (Smith) Spiker, 94, of Holton, KS passed away March 25, 2013 at Lexington Park in Topeka. She was born May 30, 1918 in Whiting, KS the only daughter of Simon and Birdie E.V. (Rhyerd) Smith; she had 10 brothers.
Katherine graduated from Whiting High School in 1932. She and her husband Leonard lived in Los Angeles, CA and Tulsa, OK before returning to Kansas and settling in the Whiting area where they lived and farmed until 1967, when they sold the farm and moved to Holton, KS.
She was a homemaker, farmer's wife and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. After retiring from the farm, she worked for 10 years at Kogers in Holton. She was a member of Faith Circle and Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton.
Katherine married Charles "Leonard" Spiker on September 12, 1941 at the First United Methodist Church in Topeka, KS. He preceded her in death on January 26, 1997. She was also preceded in death by 8 brothers, Sanford, Junius, Leslie, Pete, Warren, Norman, Eugene and Orin Smith.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Lenora Ball (Gary) of Holton, KS and Beverly Law (Gary) of Topeka, KS; a son, Gary Spiker (Candy) of Columbus, IN; 2 brothers, Harvey Smith and Johnny Smith both of Horton, KS; 9 grandchildren, Terri Johnson (David) of Edmund, OK, Joe Binkley of Topeka, KS, Sean Binkley (DeeDee) of Hiawatha, KS, Scott Binkley (Ginger) of Holton, KS, Melissa Begley (Scott) of Columbus, IN, Brendy Davie (Pat) of Lenexa, KS, Jen Schlaudroff (Dean) of Columbus, IN, Erick Law (Diane) of Overland Park, KS, Jeff Spiker (Stephanie) of Cincinnati, OH;18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Memorials may be given to Grace Hospice c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
