MCLOUTH- Karen Ann (Chippeaux) Slavens, 74, of McLouth, KS, passed away Monday, August 15, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 9, 1948, in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Robert R. and Mary Louise (Kasten) Chippeaux.

Karen graduated from Mulvane High School in 1966. After high school she attended Vernon's School of Cosmetology. Karen worked over 20 years as a Manager in Retail Sales various places to include her good friend's store Rosie's Showoff. She worked for Dillard's specializing in women's wear. She achieved Top 5 sales many years working for Dillard's.

She married Larry Slavens on April 8, 1967 in Derby, KS. They celebrated over 55 wonderful years of marriage.

Karen enjoyed most spending time with her family watching her kids and grandkids playing sports. She was an avid shopper, enjoyed bowling, gardening, bunko, square dancing, snow skiing, boating, and traveling. She and Larry even traveled for a time following the NASCAR circuit.

Survivors include her loving husband, Larry, of the home; 2 daughters, Stacey Mickens (Brad) of, Meriden, KS, and Shelly Henry (Brad), of McLouth, KS; a son, Shawn Slavens (Angie), of Tecumseh, KS; 5 grandchildren, Taylor Slavens, Kelsee Henry, Connor Mickens, Morgan Henry, and Cooper Mickens, and one great-granddaughter, Sloane Slavens.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Lou Chippeaux, and a brother, Robert Chippeaux.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2022 at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Valley Falls, KS. Burial will follow at Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls, KS.
