HOLTON – Judith Lynn "Judy" Shields, 61, of Holton lost her battle with cancer Friday, March 20, 2009 in Holton. She was born December 27, 1947 in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Harold and Jean Libby Gearhart.
She graduated from Pratt High School in 1965. She earned her B.A. in Nursing from Baker University in 1998 with honors. She had previously lived in Onaga before moving to Holton in 1990. Judy had taught elementary school for 20 years and was an RN for 13 years. She was the Director of Nursing at Merry Manor in Holton and most recently worked for Home Health and Hospice at Holton Community Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holton.
Judy married Bob Geisler in 1966 in Pratt. They were later divorced. She married Randy E. Shields on May 30, 1992 in Holton. He survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Vicky Geilser of Hutchinson, KS; sons, Robert Geisler of Topeka, KS and Adam Geisler of Wichita, KS; sister, Susan Snavely of Wichita, KS; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Holton Community Hospital Hospice c/o Mercer Funeral Home, Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
