Obituary
Joshua Eugene Montgomery, 23, Valley Falls, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at a Topeka hospital.
He was born on April 12. 1988, at Winchester, the son of James Roland and Teresa Church Montgomery. Josh graduated from Valley Falls High School in 2006 where he participated in football, basketball and baseball. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and played co-rec softball.
Josh joined the US Marine Corps and served for four years. He attained the rank of Corporal serving in Okinawa and Iraq.
Survivors include his parents, James and Teresa Montgomery; three sisters, Brenda, Haley and Alyssa Montgomery; and grandparents, Barbara Montgomery, Wayne and Carol Church, all of Valley Falls; great-grandmother Velma Church, Oskaloosa, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at the Valley Falls School East Gymnasium. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the Josh Montgomery Memorial Fund or to the Marine Graduation Foundation and sent in care of the funeral Home, PO Box 6, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
