Obituary

Josephine M. Meyer, 96, of Holton, KS formerly of Wetmore, passed away May 25, 2013 at Vintage Park in Holton. She was born August 2, 1916 in Wetmore the daughter of Melvin and Ida (Fuhrer) Spiker.

Josephine had lived in the Wetmore community since 1976 and previously lived on a farm south of Sabetha. She worked as a cook at the Sabetha Grade School and for various restaurants in Sabetha and Wetmore. She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church and Altar Society in Wetmore. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Wetmore for over 35 years.

Josephine married Albert Henry Meyer on February 8, 1937 in Fidelity, KS. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Jane Durst on August 28, 1998; 2 sisters, Phyllis Hinkle and Martha Jordan and a brother, Pete Spiker.

Survivors include her 4 sons, Gary Meyer (Patricia) of Athens, OH, John Meyer (Sue) of Shawnee, KS, Larry Meyer (Valerie Jennings) of Shawnee, KS and Dale Meyer (Ginger) of Wetmore, KS; her sister, Melba Ash of Norfolk, VA; 13 grandchildren and 23great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Fidelity. Burial will be in the St. Augustine Cemetery. Rosary will be prayed 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Wetmore American Legion or Wetmore Quilting Ladies c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
