John Stanley Marr, Sr., 87, of Hoyt, KS passed away January 5, 2013 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. He was born January 4, 1926 in Luray, KS, the son of Edward Stanley and Nora Martha (Linder) Marr.

John graduated from Natoma High School in Natoma, KS. John was drafted into the United States Army directly out of high school. He served during WWII in 33rd Mechanized Calvary; he was injured during the war and was honorably discharged with a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. After proudly serving his country, he moved to Hoyt and had lived there for over 52 years. John worked for Goodyear Tire Company since 1955 and retired in 1988. He was a member of the American Legion Post #44.

John married Ruby Irene Tuck on January 6, 1957 in Hoyt. She survives. Other survivors include a son, John S. Marr, Jr. and his wife Linda of Topeka; a daughter, Marie Marr of Lawrence; a half brother, Leo Lake and his wife Dorothy of Kansas; 3 grandchildren, Shane, James and Stephanie and a great great grandson, Jeremy.

John was preceded in death by a sister, Norita Dodd; a brother, Darrel Marr and a great grandson, Joshua.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service.
