HIGBY
Whiting—John Quimby Higby, 90, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
He was born June 25, 1915, in Whiting, the son of Jesse Edwin and Rebecca Jane Brown Higby. He was a lifelong resident of Whiting. He graduated from Whiting High School in 1934. He was a member of the Whiting Baptist Church and recently attended the 1st Baptist Church in Holton.
Mr. Higby was a farmer for 10 years; he then worked for Pillsbury Mills in Atchison for 5 years. Later he worked for DuPont Cellophane Plant in Tecumseh, KS for 20 years and retired from there.
He married Vernice Irene Ohlsen on October 10, 1941 in Whiting. She died November 11, 1997.
Survivors include 5 daughters, Dorothy Lively and her husband, Dwight of Hoyt, KS, Geraldine Runnebaum and her husband, Larry of Beattie, KS, Marilyn Bryan and her husband, Ted of Olathe, KS, Karen Allegri and her husband, Steve of Slater, MO, Diana Rieschick and her husband, Lynn of Soldier, KS; 1 son John Q. Higby, Jr. and his wife, Jackie of Arnold, MO; his sister, Rebecca Bridenstine and her husband, Bill of Dillon, MT, 20 grandchildren 19 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.
Funeral service for Mr. Higby will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2006 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
