JOHN MALCOLM HAMON

John Malcolm Hamon, 96, Valley Falls, died Friday, October 12, 2007, at LinnWood Place in Valley Falls.
He was born on December 8, 1910, north of Valley Falls, the son of Charles Malcolm and Rose Corkadel Hamon. He was valedictorian of the 1929 class at Valley Falls High School and graduated from Kansas State Agricultural College in 1933.
He served as the County Extension Agent for Wilson County and was an Agricultural Agent at both Thermopolis and Torrington, Wyoming. He returned home in 1946 and started Hamon Seed Farms, Inc. which produced quality certified seed for over 60 years. He was involved with many county and state agricultural organizations. and received recognition from the Soil Conservation Service, 4-H organizations and Kansas State University. He was president of the Kansas Crop Improvement Association and the Valley Falls Rotary Club. He was a member of the Coal Creek United Methodist Church and later the Valley Falls United Methodist Church and served on many boards and committees.
John married Bertha Cook on May 12, 1934, at the home of her parents near Effingham. Bertha was to be his beloved wife for 73 years. In 1969 they went with a KSU Agricultural Team, to Hyderbad, India, for two years. In 1975 they were honored as Kansas Master Farmer and Homemaker.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha, Valley Falls; his children, Marjorie Jean (Byron) Warta, Newton, Charles E. (Mary Jo) Hamon, Valley Falls, and Nancy Jo (Harvey) Fasse, Effingham; seven grandchildren, Steve Warta, Keith Warta, Brenda Davids, Kaye Kabus, John Hamon, JoLina Wildeman, James Fasse; 15 great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate John's life will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 15, 2007, at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Valley Falls Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 9:00-10;00 a.m., Friday, at the church's Fellowship Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson County 4-H Foundation or to the Valley Falls United Methodist Church and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, 810 Broadway, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
